About the Department:

            The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Sphoorthy Engineering College is renowned for imparting state of the art education as part of the institute whose mission is to impart futuristic and comprehensive professional education of global standards with a high sense of discipline.

            The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established with the inception of the institution in 2004 with an intake of 60 students,enhanced to 120 students in year 2007,180 students from the academic year 2011-12 and 240 students from the year 2012-13 batch.

            The Department of CSE in Sphoorthy, with its cohesive team of faculty members, imparts education to bachelors (B.Tech- Computer Science Engineering), masters (M.Tech – Computer Science Engineering)-36 seats from 2009 & M.Tech(CS)-24 seats from the year 2013-14 and doctoral candidates in its discipline. We update our self regularly to keep up with the growing demands and changing trends of the software industry and the research laboratories. It also provides an outstanding research environment complemented by superior teaching for its students to flourish in.

Objective:

The undergraduate program in computer science and engineering is essentially aimed at developing a student with excellent programming and system related competencies. The student is expected to possess skills and core knowledge both in hardware and software technologies related to the discipline of computer science. Teaching is focused on systems programming as well as application programming. Knowledge is imparted in computer architecture and design, maintenance and networking. Students are also taught a spectrum of programming languages spanning assembly language programming, C, C++, Java and Oracle. In addition, they are also imparted skills in packages like Multimedia.

The main Objective is

• To prepare graduates to handle computer software and hardware oriented projects for the industry 
• To develop excellence in the field of Computer Science
• To develop  a student with excellent programming and system related competencies
• To focus on systems programming as well as application programming.
• To enable the undergraduates to develop logic, and a problem solving approach and help build their careers in the innovative field of computing. "

Faculty:

The Department comprises of skilled and dedicated faculty with 4 professors 8 Associate Professors, 24 Assistant Professors and state-of-art computing facilities. This, combined with the systematic teaching methodology and syllabus in line with the current technology, has ensured excellent results at both University examinations as well as competitive examinations by the students and an outstanding placement record. There are ample opportunities for those inclined towards research as well, with experienced faculty and a wealth of resources.

Infrastructure:

            The department has been giving importance to the development of computer labs by procuring the state of art hardware and licensed software. At present the dept has installed 400 high configured systems connected to 4 servers that include Linux server and Windows server.

The department has state of art laboratories with 400 high end computers placed in air conditioned laboratories all of which are connected in LAN. The Internet access at 10 Mbps speed dedicated leased line available for students to access the internet via wired or wireless.

In order to fulfill the objective of achieving academic excellence, the department is equipped with all infrastructure vise, highly qualified teaching faculty, state-of-the-art computing facilities and a sophisticated library housing voluminous text books and periodicals. In addition, the following common facilities also contribute to the quality of teaching-learning process.

• E-Learning & research center( Ekalavya channel, Mana TV channel etc…)
• On-line access to IEEE & ACM journals.

Placements:

            The Department has been putting impressive performance in terms of percentage of passes at the university examinations and campus placements, Seminars, Project works etc. Keeps the students updated with the industry’s current needs. The practical skills of the students are honed by the laboratory experiments designed keeping in mind the cutting edge technology in the computer science field. CSE students got placements in top IT companies like Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Satyam, CMC, Virtusa, I-Gate, HP, Google etc.
